Self-Help Question #3 ~ What Consequences?
July 15, 2013

This video of Dr. Peter Attia at a TEDMED conference came across my screen – I think it’s such an important topic that I’m re-posting it here. He asks, “Is the “obesity crisis” just a disguise for a deeper problem?”

In so many ways we humans are inclined to play the blame game, whether we point the finger at ourselves or at others. Of course, everyone knows people who are fat brought this on themselves, right?

Not so fast. Our judgments divert us from more helpful explorations. We can instead, do what I call “walk in the question,” which means to let a question gather itself within us as we walk through our ordinary days, rather than coming so quick to judgment.  Let’s say perhaps that in this case, the question might be, “What is it within me that so easily disparages others who don’t meet my standards, what is it within me that wants to be healed of this judgment?”

Peter Attia discovered first-hand how blind our judgments makes us.
